“My husband and I met in the summer of 2004. At the time, I was a graduate student doing my master’s in nutrition. Wael had graduated a few years back from the same faculty and frequently visited his friends on campus. Although we hadn't met prior to that, we had a few mutual friends. One friend introduced us to each other and we hit it off! We've been married for a decade and have three lovely girls. We currently live in Atlanta, Georgia. Wael is an assistant professor of management information systems at Georgia State University, and I am a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Nutrition at Georgia State University.” Manal

“It was a clear starry night in the spring of 2000. I was meeting a friend at Bustani Hall for a night out, but when her roommate Farah informed me that my friend had to study for an exam, I invited her out for coffee instead. We spent the night chatting and laughing and I was smitten. I was a computer science junior at the time and she was a freshman about to embark on the same major. I started making up the weirdest excuses to meet up with her. After a year of infatuation, I gathered up the courage to ask her out. She refused the first time and the next time and the time after that. Among the many things that AUB taught me, persevering and never giving up on what you want in life has had the most lasting impact. Even though things didn’t work out for us during that year, Farah remained the love of my life. We met again during the summer of 2006, a group of AUB alumni united to help war refugees. It was the perfect opportunity to reconnect on a different level. We fell in love and got married. Every time we visit Beirut, before we do anything else, we drop by the Main Gate and share our morning coffee on the stairs where we reminisce about some of the best times of our lives.” Alaa
