For some, AUB is not just a great place to study and work, but the beginning of a love story. Compiled here are photos and stories of married couples who met at AUB. Did you meet at AUB?
Rihaf and Ali live in Beirut and have three young children: Yara, Ahmad, and Haya. They met on the stairs behind the Nami Jafet Memorial Library and had their first date in May 2001.
Mayah and Sheriff met in a Biology 201 lab in September 2007. Mayah was doing a BS in biology (later moving to a BBA), and Sheriff was doing an MS in biology. He was her lab instructor. They got married in October 2013.
“We fell in love quite a long time ago, when we were 15 and 16-year-old students at the International College. We then both went to AUB, and spent the best days of our lives as a young couple during our university years. We still remember the bench we used to sit on and enjoy the sea view right by the Nami Jafet Memorial Library. We always reminisce about those beautiful years at AUB!” Dana
“Having joined AUB as sophomores at around the same time, we never met during orientation, nor did we run into each other on campus. We both joined the student newspaper Outlook, but during different semesters and therefore didn’t get the chance to meet there either. It was only when we started master’s degree programs that a mutual friend at AUB introduced us. It didn’t take us much time to know that we were meant for each other. A few months later we got engaged. We got married on August 12, 2013.” Nidal [Nidal is director of digital media in AUB's Communications Department and an instructor at the Media Studies Program and Continuing Education Center. Mariam is in AUB's doctoral program for Arabic language and literature, and an instructor in the Arabic Department and the CAMES Summer Arabic program.]
“We met in fall 2004, got married in 2006, and moved to Kuwait. We have two lovely children, Mosbah and Aya. Every time we are in Lebanon, we come back to campus and let our children discover the secrets of our love for AUB.” Hiba
“Jeffrey and I both studied for our master's degrees in political studies at AUB. Jeff proposed to me behind the observatory after taking me on a long treasure hunt across the entire campus. We had our wedding photos taken on campus at West Hall, Assembly Hall, the Green Oval and Jesup Hall where we had our classes. We are both pursuing doctorates (mine is in history at Northeastern University, and his is in political science at Brandeis University), but we stay very active in AUB alumni activities. I serve on the WAAAUB Board of Directors and Jeffrey serves on the leadership committee of the WAAAUB New England Chapter.” Sana
