For some, AUB is not just a great place to study and work, but the beginning of a love story. Compiled here are photos and stories of married couples who met at AUB. Did you meet at AUB?
“I saw my future wife Rana Houssami on the third step of the West Hall stairs. We were introduced by a mutual friend in November 1985. The first meeting ended with an argument—a dispute about a subject we raised together. Then we met after two weeks and the ball started rolling. We were married on the 5th of August, 1989, and we have two daughters: Yasmin (BEN ’13) and Lina, a fourth year student in Graphic Design at AUB.” Ousama
“We met in medical school during clinical rotations in 1980, and were married two years later. AUB clearly shaped our lives and careers, for which we are grateful. We both work at Rutgers University at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Mary is William Dow Lovett Professor of Neurology; director, Center for Neurodegenerative and Neuroimmunologic Diseases, and I am professor and chairman, Department of Neurology, and president, Americas Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (ACTRIMS)." Suhayl
Alumni Trustee Ghaleb Hasan Daouk (MD ’84) is director of Extramural Clinical Services at Boston’s Children’s Hospital and assistant professor of pediatrics at Harvard Medical School. Rima Kaddurah-Daouk (BS ’78, MS ’80, PhD ’83) is an associate professor in psychiatry and behavioral sciences and an adjunct associate professor in molecular psychology at Duke University School of Medicine. She is a pioneer in the field of metabolomics and has founded several biotechnology startups.
“We met while serving on the national board of the AUB Alumni Association of North America (AANA). Wael was the New York chapter president, and I was the Houston chapter president. We are both avid supporters of AUB, and have raised funds for AUB through several venues over the years. Additionally we have endowed funds supporting student scholarships at AUB.” Lina
“For Saydeh and I, AUB is a lifetime of shared values, experiences and education that made a difference in our lives, not only in achievements, but also in our cultural development and network. We always wanted our children to live this unique experience, and to be part of this exceptional place, so that all of us are AUB graduates. AUB gave us a sense of belonging. It is the place to be.” Samih
"Muwaffak and I met in Beirut in 1985 when he came for a short visit to see his family. He was working in Dubai and I was a studying for my MBA at AUB. We met at a charity luncheon organized by my mom. He was dragged over by his mother to attest to the fact that my mom is an excellent cook! We started chatting and took a liking to each other. Nine months later we were married." Rana
“Fouad and I are both graduates of AUB. I am a graduate of pharmacy in 1973 and Fouad is a BBA and MBA from 1967 and 1970. We really met outside of AUB through mutual friends, but since we both had the same educational background, it helped bring us together. We are both proud to be AUB Alumni!” Huda
