For some, AUB is not just a great place to study and work, but the beginning of a love story. Compiled here are photos and stories of married couples who met at AUB. Did you meet at AUB?
Ghinwa and I met in medical school. We became friends in 1982, a very turbulent time in Beirut, and married in the US in 1987. We are both professors at the University of Rochester Medical Center; Ghinwa in infectious diseases and I in neurology. Thirty four years on, AUB and its surroundings remains the one place where we feel most at home, most at ease.
The first time I saw Nadine was in the FAFS computer lab. I can't explain it, but I was instantly drawn to her. Our love journey started in 2012 and we have been together ever since. Until now, we enjoy our jogging and walking around the beautiful campus. We recently celebrated our 2-year marriage anniversary having a long walk in AUB where we met all those years ago. We are forever grateful to our beloved AUB for pioneering the beginning of a great love story and we wish it will bring the same magic to our coming generations.
I was doing my MA at CAMES while Francisco was a visiting international student for one semester. We met in the first week of the Lebanese Arabic class. We stayed in touch after Francisco went back to Europe, and have been moving around the Middle East together ever since! We got married in Cyprus in October 2015.
We met on the first day of registration, it was my first year at AUB and I was completely lost, so Makram spent all day helping me to register my courses. Our story began since that day until I graduated and we got married.
Ramzi & I met at AUB when I joined in 1983 in my sophomore year. He was doing his MPH. I was an active photographer with the Yearbook and caught his photo in one of the city's demonstrations...We got engaged right after our graduations...We have 2 lovely sons both AUB graduates (Bassel & Rami).
We met at AUB in 1955 when I was a student in Agricultural Sciences and Suad was working as a secretary in the Dean's office. We got married in 1960 and went to the US where I obtained my doctorate at Penn State. While there, we had two boys, Ramzi and Shafik. We returned to Lebanon in 1963 where I started as a faculty member in FAFS. We had two girls in Beirut, Rania and Amal. Both Ramzi and Shafik graduated from AUB and Rania studied for one year there before we moved to the US in 1984. I worked with FAO-UN in Saudi Arabia from 1986-95 before returning to AUB in 1995 until I retired in 2007. I am now Professor Emeritus.
