Nasif Al-Yaziji was one of the leading figures of the Nahda movement, a cultural renaissance promoting modern thought and reforms throughout the Middle East.  Syrian Association for the Sciences and Arts – the Arab world's first literary society – in 1847. His son, Ibrahim al-Yaziji, was a well-known philologist, poet, publisher, and journalist.
